Advocacy

/Advocacy

The Iowa Physical Therapy Association is committed to engaging members in advocacy opportunities at the local, state and national level.

IPTA relies on our members to be grassroots activists to ensure legislators and policy makers are educated on issues and policies that affect our patients and practice.  There are many ways to get involved and advocate for our profession!

Become a Key Contact

Key contacts are IPTA members who we can count on to contact their legislator and mobilize their peers and patients when important issues come up. These contacts are critical to our success at the capitol. Let us know you are interested by submitting our volunteer form.

Join the IPTA Legislative Committee

The IPTA Legislative Committee is a dedicated group of individuals who work to set the IPTA Legislative Agenda and work on the issues facing our profession This group meets once a month during the legislative session and quarterly the rest of the year.

Participate in Legislative Day

Every year IPTA hosts a lobby day for  PT’s, PTA’s, SPT’s and SPTA’s to gather at the State Capitol and promote the profession of physical therapy to our legislators.  Save the Date for February 6, 2018.

Co Pay Bill Signed by the Governor in 2015

On Thursday, July 2, 2015, Iowa Governor Terry E. Branstad took action on 14 bills including the signing of SF505 which included the copay legislation language. The Iowa Physical Therapy Association is extremely pleased to see the legislation has been signed and was in effect as of July 1, 2015.

This change will affect health plans delivered, issued for delivery and continued or renewed in Iowa on or after July 1, 2015. If you have patients who are still responsible for high co-pays please direct them to their insurance company.

We are very grateful to those who responded to our action alert to contact the governor by postcard and email. It was a grassroots effort that yielded great results four our profession. Thank you all for your commitment to our profession and patients!  For more information on copay legislation and what’s happening in other states click here.

Iowa Physical Therapy - PAC

Of the 1,380 members, 803 are PTs, 453 are students and 124 are PTAs. In 2015, 54 members, or 4% of the membership, donated to the PAC. Looking ahead, if each PT member donated $50, each student member donated $10 and each PTA member donated $25, there would be a donation potential of $49,130. Click here to see the potential!

Please help us reach our goal by making a contribution today! The IPT- PAC committee and legislative committees are working diligently with members of the Iowa Senate and House of Representatives to discuss our legislative priority for 2018. We need your voice and contributions to the PAC to help protect our practice and help IPTA have a strong voice and make our issues a priority for Iowa Legislators in 2018.

If you would like to make a donation less than $25, please mail your payment to the Iowa Physical Therapy Association office. Be sure to include the  PAC Donation form.
